Hurricane Ivan (Category 5) was one of the worst hurricanes that hit my hometown and scared me deep down into my bones. On September 16, 2004, at 1:50 a.m. Ivan came on shore. At the time, I was living in Crawfordville, Florida, but my family was living in Pensacola. So after two days of being unable to get in touch with any of them. Therefore, Steve and I packed up my jeep with food, ice, a shop fan, gas, and a generator this trip normally would take us 3 hours to Pensacola, but this time it took us 6 hours to get there.
Hurricane Ivan Kept Me In Turmoil
In the meantime, I still haven’t heard anything from my family. So I finally got to one of my sister’s houses in Pace Florida and left her and my daughter some supplies. What’s more aggravating is it only took another hour and a half (Pace to Pensacola takes only 20 minutes)to make it to my other sister’s house in Pensacola. When daylight hit Steve and I drove around to check on all of the dry cleaners that we managed.
I was so brokenhearted at all of the devastation that we saw. Looking at the Interstate10 bridge with all the damage that the hurricane caused it was awful to see. My sister in Pace, Florida had a huge tree fall on top of the corner of her house and my daughter’s house had damage to her roof from a limb and rain-soaked her bedroom. My Sister who lives in Pensacola had no damage at all. This is a miracle in itself because a tornado took out the China Berry Tree and the huge Pine Tree that was only 6 ft away from her trailer. All in all, I thank God that all of my family survived the hurricane.
