Visit Florida The Sunshine State

Visit Florida the sunshine state and see what all we have to offer. Let me tell you a little about my home state of Florida. Juan Ponce de Leon was the first one to lead the European expedition to Florida in 1513 and he named us in honor of Spain’s Easter celebration “Pascua Florida.” There are 67 counties and we have the Atlantic Ocean on the east side and the Gulf of Mexico (The Gulf is what we call it) on the west side. We have 100s of miles of beaches. Don’t hate us, but we have about 235 days of sunshine.

The Blue Angels call us home. And if they ever come to your town I highly recommend that you go see them. They are based at the Navel Air Station (NAS.) And they do some of the heart-stopping hold-your-breath stunts that I have ever seen. One of the first places to go is Rosie O’Grady’s Good Time Emporium which is in the downtown district and they have some of the best food there. They also have the best piano bar where they have the dueling piano show, which is a must to see and hear. Come and visit Florida The Sunshine State.

Now let’s move on to McGuire’s Irish Pub, they are located on Gregory Street (and that’s on the way to the beach.) The ale is brewed in copper kettles, the food is amazing and so is the live music most nights. They have opened a Blue Angel room with a lot of memorabilia. Don’t forget to stop by and kiss the moose while you are there and if you don’t want to kiss the moose then take a picture of you and the moose on your phone.

Visit Florida The Sunshine State; My Other Favorite Town Crawfordville

My other favorite hometown is Crawfordville, which is just south of Tallahassee. Crawfordville is in Wakulla County and the national forest surrounds it. There are about 24 sinkholes that have water, some of which you can swim in. Wakulla Springs Park is located in Crawfordville and is the best place for your family to come to enjoy a fun vacation. Home to one of the world’s deepest freshwater springs. The sapphire water of Wakulla Springs has many manatees, and alligators, and hosts much different wildlife. Therefore if you want to, you can see them from a diving platform rimmed by an ancient cypress swamp.

What’s more, you can swim where the mastodons once roamed. Take a boat tour to see some wildlife that hangs on the bank, or if you are lucky you might see a manatee or two. In addition, two movies were made here, Tarzan’s Secret Treasure (1941) and The Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954.) The 1930s Spanish-style lodge is an elegant remnant of old Florida and you will love staying there while on vacation. See all of this when you visit Florida.

The Fishing Is Amazing

Visit Florida The Sunshine State

Florida has some of the best fishing around. And if you want to go deep-sea fishing you might fish for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Shark, or Wahoo. The most common fish caught in the Gulf are Amberjack, Grouper, and Snapper. These fish are the best-tasting fish you can find in the Gulf. So if you are not into fishing from a boat then there is cast net fishing. Where you can cast out from a bridge, wade out in the water, and cast your net.

Pensacola Beach

The beach has sugar-white sand and emerald-green water. You can walk at the water’s edge and pick up shells and if you are lucky enough a sand dollar. After you have finished sunbathing or playing in the water and you get hungry there are many restaurants on the beach to choose from. So when it is time to leave. We just ask that you please leave nothing but your footprints in the sand.

Visit Florida

If you drive to Fort Picking Gulf Islands National Seashore which got its name after American Revolutionary War hero Andrew Pickens. Geronimo was held there until 1888 and you still can visit the place where he stayed. However, Geronimo and his men did not get to sit around and do anything. They were used for hard labor and also as a side attraction for visitors to come and see him. As a teenager, we would run all over the jail and play in it. We had a blast, but unfortunately, the deterioration of the jail and other places are now off-limits. You can still see the canons that protected the fort and the mouth of the bay and gulf from the enemies. Most importantly, you’ll love what you have learned by just walking around the park.
